Title: The Arthritic Knee in the Aging Athlete

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Description: Dr. McKeon will draw from his training and experience to clearly and concisely outline a useful and effective approach to osteoarthritis and the arthritic knee. Correct diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of patients presenting with knee problems is essential for the occupational medicine clinician.  Toward this end, Dr. McKeon will review knee anatomy, office based physical examination of knee problems, and the differential diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Both non operative and operative management will  be thoroughly reviewed. Dr. McKeon will identify criteria for referral to an orthopedic surgeon.  He will also address arthroscopic repairs.

- Describe demographics and epidemiology of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Discuss etiology of OA
- Review both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options for OA

Featured Speaker: Brian McKeon MD
Dr. Brian McKeon is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon who practices in both Waltham, MA at Pro Sports Orthopedics and the New England Baptist Hospital Occupational Medicine department. He is a Tufts University school of medicine clinical instructor and a member of the New England Baptist Hospital Bone and Joint Institute in Boston, MA. He completed his orthopedic residency  at the University of Connecticut after graduating from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He also completed a sports medicine fellowship at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA.  His current research interest is articular cartilage injuries.
